What do “MIRRABOOKA" and "DREAMTIME” mean?
For the sake of this website and the video game project it presents, “MIRRABOOKA” has 2 meanings. First and foremost, it is the name of our protagonist, an Aboriginal boy who lives in Aboriginal Australian bushland together with his tribe; and second, the word means the constellation of the Southern Cross in Noongar Aboriginal language, and is used as such by the characters in the game and game trailers. The Mirrabooka/Southern Cross is also an important feature in Aboriginal night-time navigation, and the protagonist Mirrabooka’s in-game adventure will be guided by the eponymous constellation in the game’s night sky.
Besides the protagonist, various other characters’ names in the game are also words from Aboriginal languages, the meanings of which can be found in the “Characters” section of this website.
“DREAMTIME” refers to the Aboriginal worldview and mythology. It relates back to the ancient times during which the world was populated by various supernatural beings and their creations who proceeded to shape the world and people. In this game, the protagonist Mirrabooka will experience the Dreamtime stories and interact with the denizens in them via several ways.
